Not a damn thing. I don't think it is up to anybody to decide whether being gay is right or wrong. If a person wants to be gay, then let them be gay. If they believe that they were born gay, then let them believe that. Why do so many people give a flying "you know what??" It doesn't affect me at all or change the way I think about the person just because of their sexual preference. I have met gay people, men and women, that I do not like. But I have met straight people, men and women, that I don't like either. It had nothing to do with who they go to bed with. It had to do with them having a crappy attitudes.
I think the homophobic society is the class of people that has something wrong with them. Being gay is NOT a disease like some of these people think. It's not a medical condition. It cannot be CURED. I sure as hell don't think that you can "un-gay" someone like Michelle Bachman and her Husband try to do. That's just silly. Crazy huh? Google it, you'll see what I am talking about. I do believe that some people ARE born gay and that others do CHOOSE to be gay.
People need to get over the whole, "Gays being married is wrong!" topic too. Who cares??? If a couple that loves each other wants to be married, let them be married. Why does it matter what's between their legs? I am not sure why so many people think that if gay people are married, it affects them. It doesn't and it shouldn't.
As for gays in the military? Let's set up a scenario. You are in the middle of a war and you are in the middle of a nasty fire fight. Do you really give a crap what the sexual preference of the person next to you is? I wouldn't. They are shooting at the same people I am, which means you are OK in my book. Right now everyone in the military SIGNED UP to be there. There was no draft. So if a gay person wants to go defend our country against terrorism or any other reason, so be it.
People being gay makes no difference in how I live my life. It doesn't change anything for me. I support the equal rights of the LGBT community and hope more and more people soon realize that it's unconstitutional to make laws that segregate and single out a certain class of people. Blacks went through it, women went through it, and gays are still going through it. Enough is enough.
Cheers!

I very much agree with this post. I'm very big into my church and support it and love it and on and on. But this is the one topic I do not agree with them about. I have friends that are gay. Who cares?? I just don't see the big deal in it. Why do people feel the need to make a big deal of it? They are just uncomfortable I guess. It shouldn't matter if you like the same sex as you, it shouldn't matter if you fall in love and want to get married. Americans need to get over it and let them live their lives.

ReplyDeleteAt what point do we discuss heterophobia?
ReplyDeleteI guess now's your chance. Have at it. :)
ReplyDeleteAnother angle people will use is a "Biblical" (Leviticus) excuse against homosexuality. Usually when someone plays that card you cannot reason with them but my time at a seminary did teach me a few things to counter the argument. The Old Testament, where Leviticus is, was essentially thrown out after the cruxifiction/resurrection (the whole tear down this kingdom (the old testament) and rebuild it in three days (the new testament)).
ReplyDeleteThe Old Testament contains a lot of laws of those cultures, not so much "God's" law. Back then people knew eating pork could kill you b/c they did not understand bacteria. That's why Jews do not eat pork but science has given us the ability to eat bacon now that we now we need to fully cook it. Homosexuality back then probably spread a lot of disease which is why it was not favored, and the same reason polygamy was not encouraged. Monogamy usually kept diseases in check and thus favored. But now thru science we understand and the threat of disease can be controlled.
just a point of veiw that a heard and it seemed to make sense. Not saying I am right or wrong since religion is a slippery subject...
DeleteRuss, what you said makes so much sense. Leviticus said you should kill your children if they curse you, you can own slaves, you should never wear fabric made from two types of material, you can't eat pork, and you can't be gay. Your average person will sit there and say, "Well, it says in the Bible that being gay is bad." Yet they have no clue that the same person that wrote that "a man laying with another man is an abomination" also wrote a bunch of other crazy stuff that NO ONE ABIDES BY!
